October 21st - 23rd, 2011

To apply for a space, follow the directions on the right.

Who It's For:
Performers and performance teachers. Singers can focus on singing rather than speaking.

Schedule:
Friday: 7pm - 10pm
Saturday: 10am - 5:30pm
Sunday: 10am - 10pm

Location:
Hollywood, California.

What's Covered:
This intensive introduction helps you free your voice and find greater freedom, power, connection and ease in your work.

Using Fitzmaurice Voicework, we do exercises to free the voice and explore a sense of being vibrantly relaxed. In this part of the work, called Destructuring, we pay particular attention to freeing the breathing and related muscles through bodywork adapted for that purpose.

At a basic level, this part of the work addresses allowing yourself to be and to breathe. The internal nature of this experience is then shifted to bring it into relationship with others, with the space, and with voice and text.

We also briefly cover the second part of Fitzmaurice Voicework, Structuring, to help you communicate with greater vocal flexibilty, ease and power, and to do so with a greater sense of presence.

Goals:
These introductory intensives have four goals:

  • You will learn how this work addresses your specific needs.
  • You will learn a highly effective vocal warm-up that can become a part of any regular training routine you use.
  • You will develop a deeper experience of the role of breathing in vocal production and in developing greater presence and meaningful connection and spontaneity in your work.
  • If after attending this workshop you want to join the ongoing classes held in Los Angeles, you will have the prerequisites to do so.

Applying for a Space:
Email Saul at VoicecoachLA@aol.com and include:

  • your name
  • your resume, bio, or comparable background information (an imdb or web link is fine)
  • a brief statement about why you'd like to do the workshop
  • how you heard about this work

If you are offered a space, you will receive more information and a short questionnaire about your specific needs/interests.

In order to ensure that we can give personal attention to every participant, these workshops are kept small, and they sometimes fill as much as a month in advance.

Cost, Deposit, and Refunds:
The cost of the workshop is on a sliding scale to accommodate people of different means. The regular cost is $450 and the minimum cost is $300. The amount you pay within that range depends on your ability to pay. It's done on an honor system, and it doesn’t require explanation.

If you are accepted into the workshop, a deposit of $100 is required to reserve a space. The balance is due when we start.

If you cancel two or more weeks before the workshop begins, you will not be responsible for the balance of the workshop fee, and you may apply your deposit to workshops held within the next 12 months.

If you cancel less than two weeks before the workshop begins, you are responsible to pay the minimum workshop fee (less your deposit).
